What Is Warframe?

Warframe is a free-to-play, third-person cooperative action game developed and published by Digital Extremes, first released in 2013. Set in the far future of our solar system, players take control of the Tenno — an ancient race of warriors who pilot powerful biomechanical suits called Warframes in battle against various factions fighting for control of the Origin System.

The game blends fluid, acrobatic movement with intense third-person shooting and melee combat. Slide, double jump, bullet-jump, wall-run, and bullet-dodge through missions while unleashing devastating supernatural abilities. Warframe rewards mastery of movement just as much as build optimization — a veteran Tenno gliding through a tileset is a sight to behold.

The Lore Premise

Thousands of years ago, the Orokin Empire ruled the solar system. They created the Tenno — children who had survived a void anomaly and returned changed, capable of wielding the Warframes that normal humans could not. After the fall of the Orokin, the Tenno entered cryosleep. Now the Origin System is in chaos: the militaristic Grineer Empire clones soldiers in their billions. The Corpus, a merchant-cult megacorporation, deploys robotic proxies. The Infested — a plague of corrupted biomatter — consume everything in their path.

You, the Operator, awaken your Warframe and receive guidance from the Lotus — a mysterious figure who directs you through early missions. The story that unfolds across the main quests is one of the most rewarding narratives in any online game. No spoilers here — discover it yourself.

Why Should You Play?

• ◆Massive content breadth. Hundreds of missions across a full solar system map, 60+ Warframes, thousands of weapons, companion systems, open-world zones, and a deep main questline. Warframe will keep you busy for thousands of hours.
• ◆Deep build crafting. The mod system is one of the most intricate progression systems in any game. Every weapon and Warframe is built from scratch through crafting and then customized with mods. No two builds need to be the same.
• ◆Not pay-to-win. Unlike many free-to-play games, Platinum is used mostly for cosmetics and convenience items like weapon slots. All gameplay items can be earned or traded for.
• ◆Crossplay supported. Play with friends on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series, and Nintendo Switch. The PC version (via Steam or the Warframe launcher) is the most populated.
